“However intimate and revealing some of her stories were, they always served as perfect introductions to the songs that followed, and often did so in a way that made me hear music I thought I knew well in an entirely different way. That, friends, is what great cabaret is all about.” - Chuck Lavazzi, KDHX
“Katie, clearly a skilled actress, used her storytelling abilities on dramatic numbers as well as humorous ones. But the fact is that the entire show was created around heart, around love.” - Stephen Mosher, Broadway World
SPRY is the newest offering from the award-winning, St. Louis favorite Katie McGrath, acknowledging her crossing over the line between “life as she knew it before” and “life as an old person now” represented by her recent 70th birthday. It’s rated PG-13 for language, not that she plans to do any cursing. We just never know what’s going to tumble from her lips. We do know she’ll share stories about the art, science and inconvenience of getting on in years along with songs from a breadth of genres including the Great American Songbook, Broadway, jazz and pop.
Kay Love will be a special guest singer. Music Direction by Larry Pry. Directed by Lina Koutrakos.
100% of McGrath’s proceeds will benefit Gratitude House whose mission is to reduce the rate of relapse by providing a safe, supportive, and beautiful home for sober women who are committed to 12-step recovery.
