Over the course of the next two weeks, Cinema St. Louis will hold filmmaking workshops and screen fourteen films in its first .
Cinema St. Louis Executive Director Cliff Froehlich said the organization chose to do a children's festival because there were a lot of great children's films that should be seen despite not having wide commercial appeal.
Among the filmmakers attending the festival are animator Michael Sporn and actor/screenwriter Joey Dedio. Sporn is known for his animations of beloved children books, including "Abel's Island," a story about a mouse who becomes stranded on an island.
Sporn said his goal in animating children's films has been "for problems to be solved and a love of art to get across." Compilations of his short films will be screened on two occasions.
Joey Dedio co-wrote, produced and starred in his film, "Tio Papi," the story of a carefree man who becomes the guardian of his sister's six children.
