The board appointed Borishade as superintendent during a closed session Tuesday night without opening up a formal hiring process.

St. Louis Public Schools has hired Keisha Scarlett, an administrator in Seattle Public Schools who has a doctorate in education leadership and policy studies, as its superintendent.

The candidates are vying to replace Kelvin Adams, who was one of the longest-serving superintendents in St. Louis history.

St. Louis Public Schools Superintendent Kelvin Adams will retire this month from the district he helmed for the past 14 years.

The district鈥檚 chief of staff, Nicole Williams, will lead the district after Superintendent Kelvin Adams retires at the end of this year.

鈥淭o be honest, I was in complete denial,鈥� the superintendent said. 鈥淚t just never sunk in what I was really facing.鈥�

Curtis Cain, who is moving to the Rockwood School District this summer, was chosen as the National Superintendent of the Year.

Although there hasn鈥檛 been a mass exodus, retirements are ticking up, and one thing definitely increased: more stress and scrutiny.
