Boeing promises the project will create at least 500 jobs.

Boeing has not said exactly what it would build, but the company said the project would create about 500 new jobs.

One member of the St. Louis County Council called the Boeing request for a $155 million tax abatement on the company鈥檚 proposed $1.8 billion investment 鈥渢one-deaf timing.鈥� It comes just weeks after the council voted against freezing property taxes for seniors.

The decision comes after a recent regional crime summit for the St. Louis area. The action by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments passed through a voice vote, with no audible dissent.

Some members of the St. Louis County Council were upset that $300,000 was allocated to inform voters about the 3% tax on cannabis products.

The St. Louis County Council dipped into reserves in order to bridge a roughly $40 million budget deficit for 2023.
