This year marks the 46th edition of the Purina Pet Parade 鈥� a staple of St. Louis' Mardi Gras season. Here are the people and pets who made their way to south St. Louis.

Celebrate St. Louis, the sponsor organization that puts on the parade, will still hold a July 4th event in downtown St. Louis. The two-day festival will feature live music, food vendors and fireworks and will remain on the grounds of Gateway Arch National Park.

Each year, two Soulard residents who have done service for the neighborhood in the year prior are nominated to a serve as the Bastille Day king and queen.

Fans will say this parade has been 52 years in the making. Those organizing it put the event together in a matter of days.鈥淲e鈥檙e very superstitious in鈥�
