In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court鈥檚 conservative majority ruled that the federal bribery statute 鈥� referred to as 鈥淪ection 666鈥� 鈥� does not criminalize 鈥済ratuities鈥� given to a state or local public official after he or she has already performed an official act.

State regulators are once again considering massive electric utility spending plans that would affect the state鈥檚 climate goals 鈥� and 5.4 million electric customers鈥� monthly bills 鈥� after rejecting previous versions late last year.

Consumer advocates are pushing for a change to state law that would bar utilities from collecting money from customers for those expenditures, liability insurance covering executives and for the cost associated with filing rate cases.

In rejecting the plans, regulators limited the companies鈥� proposed rate increases, meaning that next year鈥檚 impending increases will be significantly smaller than the utilities鈥� requests.
