A few hours after winning the St. Louis County executive race, Steve Stenger stopped by © 2024 on Wednesday to talk about his new position on the "Politically Speaking" podcast. Part of that interview was heard Thursday on "St. Louis on the Air."

During the interview, Stenger said it would be up County Executive Charlie Dooley to address any unrest following an upcoming announcement from the grand jury in the shooting death of Michael Brown by Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson. That announcement is expected sometime this month. Stenger, who will take office on Jan. 1, said he will support actions that Dooley takes.

Stenger reaffirmed plans to create the Office of County Empowerment, a new agency that will focus on directing state resources to low-income areas.

He also said he is reaching out to Democrats who opposed him in the election, and predicted that divisions would quickly heal.

"We saw political motivations of all sorts, and we need to set them aside," Stenger said. "We need to move forward in St. Louis County. We need to move forward, and we need to move forward together."
