Gov. Jay Nixon says voters should decide whether to install , though he would not say if he supports the idea.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has sought the authority to form a partnership with private contractors to recover the costs of rebuilding Interstate 70 by using tolls. Its chief, that could allow the department to avoid taking the issue to voters.
Nixon was asked about tolls at an afternoon press conference following an annual media event. He says the state should consider a wide variety of ideas for its transportation system.
MoDOT has three options for rebuilding the interstate, with a price tag between $2 billion and $6 billion.
