A former St. Louis alderman who was recalled from office in 2005 over his support for controversial development projects in his south city ward seems poised to take his old seat back in April.
defeated the current 24th Ward incumbent, , by 12 votes: 437 to 425. Two other candidates split the remaining votes. Bauer will face an independent candidate in April by the name of Scott Ogilvie.
The three other incumbents facing primary challenges all won. Some of them will face opposition in the general election in April.
Turnout in the city was anemic, with less than seven percent of the city's 194,000 registered voters casting a ballot.
The board president and aldermen in even wards are up for election this year.
As of 10:15 p.m., with all of the city's 203 precincts reporting, here are in those four contests from the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners: (winners in bold)

- (incumbent) - 83% (1439 votes)

Ward 16
- (incumbent) - 56% (1229 votes)
- - 23% (538 votes)
- Mariano Favazza - 25% (573 votes)
(Favazza was, until last year, the St. Louis Circuit Clerk. He was in August.)
Ward 20
- (incumbent) - 55% (281 votes)
- - 6% (31 votes)
- - 36% (196 votes)
Ward 24
- (incumbent) - 43% (425 votes)
- - 12% (117 votes)
- Tom Bauer - 44% (437 votes)
- Martin Fischer - 2% (21 votes)
In the 12th Ward, the lone Republican on the Board whose south city district runs along the county line, drew 197 votes in his uncontested GOP primary. But his opponent in April, , garnered 498 votes in an uncontested Democratic primary.
