A has agreed to be returned to Virginia to face prosecution.
Jeffrey Sterling of O'Fallon, Mo., waived extradition Monday during a brief federal court appearance in St. Louis. The timing of his flight back to Virginia is unclear. Sterling recently had a knee replaced and he will be returned to Virginia as soon as it is medically possible.
U.S. Magistrate Terry Adelman ordered Sterling to remain detained without bond, pending a detention hearing once he returns to Virginia.
Sterling was indicted last week on charges of disclosing national security secrets. He is accused of leaking classified information about Iran to the Times reporter.
Sterling was arrested Thursday. He has not entered a plea. Sterling's attorney, Edward MacMahon, did not comment.
